Lexmark X2580 Ink Cartridges Printer Review
Expert review of the Lexmark X2580 printer 29 May 2012
A small office that needs a versatile multifunction device can try the Lexmark X2580, which features colour printing, copying, and scanning in high resolutions up to 19200dpi. The small footprint and simple exterior allows the X2580 to blend well into professional environments, but the specs are quite outdated, which makes it inefficient to run and maintain.
The understated and simplistic appearance of the Lexmark X2580 all-in-one printer lends itself to professional environments and the home office. On-board are minimalist controls highlighted by the grey area on the right-hand top corner of the device, next to the 8.5x11.7-inch flatbed scanner. The paper feed is conveniently located at the rear of the X2580 and it can take up to 100 sheets at a time, while the output tray at the bottom front can accommodate 25 sheets. The Lexmark X2580 multifunction printer can only be connected to a PC via USB 2.0.
The convenience of having a copier, scanner, and printer in one compact device is the main reason why users like the Lexmark X2580. The flatbed scanner produces good quality images, while the bundled software that comes with the device is comprehensive and helpful for first-time users. The low initial cost of the Lexmark X-2580 makes it a good choice for an entry-level multifunction printer for small offices.
The Lexmark X2580 does not use high-yield ink cartridges and lacks an Energy Star certification. Consequently, the X2580 fails when it comes to ink consumption and energy efficiency. The overall speed is disappointing especially when printing colour documents and graphics, while the absence of an ADF, fax machine, networking options, and a duplexer lessens efficiency. Lexmark has stopped producing the X2580 to give way to better and more energy-efficient multifunction devices.
